HOG Rally Maui 2016 by Ian Howell
Just thought we’d share this to give folks something to read and look at. At Christmas time in 2014 we found ourselves in Hawaii, riding a rented Harley whilst staying with Hilary’s sister, who is lucky enough to live there. We joined in with many Chapter rides and events, and we were very fortunate to be invited to their next HOG Rally on Maui in 2016. We rather sheepishly said we would try to be there. When we got home we decided we would definitely try and make this happen. And we did!! So in October 2016 we flew to Maui, picked up our rented bike and went to stay at the Lahaina Shores Hotel, where we met up with many of the friends we had made in previous years. What a rally!! Included in the ticket price was breakfast at the dealership each day, a choice of two different ride outs, and an evening of food and a concert in Lahaina. Amazingly a British band had been booked for the evenings entertainment, The Tenors of Rock, who were brilliant. One of the ride outs was to the top of Mount Haleakala, an extinct volcano, at an elevation of 12,000 ft. We had been told to bring warm clothes because of the height be we really didn’t need them. A fantastic view was at the top, right over to see some of the other Hawaiian Islands. On another day we went with a few friends round the northern coast road, which again had spectacular scenery. All in all we had a wonderful time, made lifelong friendships and can’t wait to go back again. We gifted some New Forest HOG Chapter rockers to some of the organisers, they were most impressed
