Crofton Beam Engines

Sunday 26th June 2016

A ride on some different roads through Hampshire and Wiltshire towards Marlborough where we will visit the site of the Crofton Beam Engines.

These engines were built 200 years ago to supply water to the highest point of the Kennet & Avon canal, where it runs through Savernake Forest. Still in working condition, they represent an installation which has major international significance for industrial archaeology.

Our visit will coincide with their monthly ‘steaming days’ so the engines will (hopefully!) be in full running order.

Approx 100 miles in total and suitable for all abilities. A progressive ride back using the A303 and A34.

The ride will end at Winchester. Please note that if the ‘steaming day’ changes then we will go to Marlborough instead.

Meet at Southampton Harley-Davidson: 10:00am, leaving at 10:30am
